This summer we provided summer camp to more than 300 children. Since the onset of the pandemic, providers have been challenged in meeting the needs of the children and families we served. Summer camp resumed in 2021 but we were limited in the scope of activities we could provide. This year the Department of Youth and Community Development enhanced the summer camp experience for children across the city.
Summer 2022 was a different experience for our campers. Children participated in STEM/STEAM, literacy, robotics, and sports/fitness. The children went to parks, played outdoors in the sprinklers designed by Harlem Dowling staff, visited the NYC Aquarium, the Bronx Zoo, and iPlay America indoor amusement park. At the end of summer, we had a barbecue at FDR Park where the children and staff played kick ball, took nature walks, enjoyed a beautiful sunny day, and munched on hamburgers and hotdogs.
